Forever Changed by the NICU

I really appreciate my dad for taking this video, but I want to know when I'm going to be able to watch it without crying? How do people handle life so well and move on when their baby is in the NICU for months? My heart goes out to all of you. I took life for granted, but not so much anymore.

  1. My son was born at 28 wks gestation and spent 6.5 weeks (48 days) in the NICU. He weighed 2 lbs 5 oz at birth and was sent home weighing 3 lbs, 12 oz. I posted about our experience on my blog on his birthday - January 21. You just deal with it and hope for the best.

  2. I remember when we went to see my son in the NICU for the first time. I remember thinking how it was so different then the way it was supposed to be. As we walked by the nursery it was filled with smiles and giggles as everyone peered through the glass at their babies. But as we approached the NICU, the air became so much thicker. The smiles and giggles that surrounded the nursery were no where in sight as we scrubbed up and put on the delightful papers suits to go see our baby. I just remember thinking, this is not the way you should meet your child for the first time, consumed with worry about the unknown.

  3. I always cry when I see babies in the NICU. They are so tiny! It's amazing what those nurses and doctors can do for them.
My dream volunteer job is to hold babies in the NICU!
