Who doesn't love a baby in a good Halloween jammie? By the way, do you celebrate Halloween? We absolutely do, but we try not to do it in a scary way. I wrote an article called Halloween Hecklers for New Jersey Family and caught some crap from an atheist and a Catholic about my flippant Halloween attitude. Read it and see what YOU think. I welcome your comments back here at The Kerrie Show.
I'm all for tolerating other people and what they want to do, but I don't think it's too much to ask that Halloween per se not be celebrated in public schools. They certainly don't celebrate Christmas (as in, Christ's birth, not the Santa crap) or Easter (as in, Christ's resurrection, not the bunny). I wouldn't expect them to as that is not inclusive to those families. At least in theory, we ought try making public schools a place for every child to feel welcome.
ReplyDeleteI don't see why all the holiday parties can't be generic. Surely if HALLOWEEN (not just "fall" or whatever) is that important to you, you can have a Halloween party that happens outside of school. Honestly, my little child is pretty severely disabled and the idea that I should keep him home when he would otherwise receive therapy - so other kids can go to a flipping PARTY I disagree with on my tax dollar? - is asking too much of my family.
Well, it's not hate mail, but it's an honest comment. Doggone it but hate mail is usually much more anonymous and *fun* than my comment. :)
