The new year is coming up and that means many of us are finishing the last of the festive food in preparation for detox in January. New Year's resolutions of getting fit are being made and you are probably wondering how to get there. You might have done some research and found that there is a myriad of diets out there that all seem a bit confusing. After all, you want to lose weight in a healthy way, you don’t want to lose too much too quickly or do something unattainable that means you get to your goal weight but can’t sustain it long term and end up right back where you started. There is a diet out there for everyone and it is up to you to decide on what is the best for you, your habits, and your lifestyle. As long as you are exercising, eating healthily, and are comfortable in yourself, then that is what is the most important thing in life. Make sure you don’t get too fixated on your weight and that you are sensible. Here are some of the most common diets explained so you can make an informed decision. And remember, if something doesn’t work for you, don’t be afraid to try something new!

  1. The Keto Diet

The Keto diet is often compared to the Atkins diet which has been around for many years. It is essentially a diet that focuses on foods high in lat and low in carbs. Due to this reduction of carbohydrates, your body's metabolism goes into a state called ketosis - hence the name of the diet - which burns fat for energy. Some of the foods you focus on include meat, eggs, fish, and nuts. There are experts out there who can aid with this diet, such as https://www.kristenblakewellness.com/ who can share her expertise.

  1. The Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet is also nicknamed the caveman diet and focuses on the foods that our ancient ancestors ate. This diet goes off of the theory that modern diseases are linked to the processed foods we now eat and that weren't around hundreds of years ago. In this diet, you eat foods such as whole foods, lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds, while avoiding anything processed.

  1. The Vegan Diet

While this has been increasingly popular over the last few years due to people believing it is unnatural and cruel to eat animal products, it is also beneficial for losing weight. Vegans believe in eating no products that contain ingredients from animals, such as dairy, fat, or gelatine. This diet consists of lots of vegetables, fruit, nuts, and substitutes like tofu, oat milk, and almond milk.

These are just a few different diets that you can try out. Remember to be safe, sensible and if something doesn’t work, don’t get too disheartened. Always lose weight carefully and be sure to exercise as well as watching what you are eating. Don’t be afraid to have some days off and let yourself indulge in a treat every now and then - it will taste even better when you haven’t had it in a while!
