Who likes to clean? Fittingly, some people do and pride themselves on it. Did you know you could make it into a career? House cleaning is a serious business. Whether you want to start your own business or join some house cleaning services, here is how you can become an official House Cleaning Technician.
What Is a House Cleaning Technician?
You may think you know how to clean. What more is there to it? You’d be surprised. A House Cleaning Technician (HCT) is a certified cleaner that has earned their Professional House Cleaning Certificate (PHC). The course and certification program stands approved and seen over by the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC).
A house cleaning technician specializes in more than just a mop, broom, vacuum, and a bottle of bleach. They are trained in the proper science of cleaning (yes, cleaning is a science). This includes learning not only about the in and out of cleaning, but about how to conduct proper sanitization, cleaning safety protocols, cleaning chemistry, and more.
Where Do You Start?
There are several schools out there that offer house cleaning training along with certificates. There are even schools for if you want to get into commercial business cleaning. For instance, if you venture into cleaning offices or businesses. Some stand out schools for house cleaning are:
The ARCSI
They are the Association of Residential Cleaning Professionals and are a part of the IICRC. ARCSI hosts the HCT certification course.
The AHLEI
Standing for The American Hotel and Lodging Executive Institute (AHLEI), they offer certificates for those entering into the hotel housekeeping business. Their courses offer you a chance to earn your CGA or Certified Guestroom Attendant certificate. You can also strive for your CHHE or Certified Hospitality Housekeeping Executive bill of credential.
The IEHA
Another house cleaning school is the International Executive Housekeepers Associations. It honors a few different housekeeping certificates, like the REH or Registered Executive Housekeeper certificate and the CEH Certified Executive Housekeeper program.
If you want to start your own cleaning business, having a house cleaning certificate will put you ahead in the pool of house cleaning businesses. House cleaning services, who once hire you, often use one of these cleaning certification programs as their training program. This way, they can guarantee that their company and cleaning crew are top professionals and certified in their services.
