Mascara Love Update Post

Welcome to my Mascara Love Update post.

Mascara has always been my go-to makeup item. If I had to only choose one beauty product to use for the rest of my life or to put on before doing a TV appearance or going anywhere at all, it would be mascara. A close second would be a great light-pink lipgloss or lipstick 💄, but that’s another post. Stay tuned because I have several of those and am itching to try more and share the outcome with you. Who isn't looking for the perfect nude lipstick, anyway 🤷

You can find the original post about 9 tubes in 5 different kinds of mascara here, so if you add those to this post, it turns out I am able to discuss 11 mascaras without duplicates, and that's just the tip of the iceberg of what's out there (and if you don't count Lash Princess in waterproof and regular as one thing)! And this is ironic or something BECAUSE my original post was from almost 11 years ago.

In case you're wondering, I pretty much always get mascara in BLACK. Back in the ’80s, yes, I did have blue and purple mascaras though, and I would not hesitate to use those again. Just waiting for my daughters to buy some so I can borrow it. (Some of you — like our family ophthalmologist — are freaking out right now about eye diseases and sharing mascara, and I'll do an update post if that ever happens.)

*squirrel (pause for a random, intrusive thought)*
I found this (click link) while hunting for information about Voluminous mascara, and you can do a live try-on of a bunch of different colors, including this gorgeous cobalt blue!

Pro tip
I like to buy trial sizes on eBay to see what I think of something, or beauty box subscriptions like Ipsy, Walmart, and Target are fantastic for this as well. Trial sizes are also perfect for keeping in a purse for touch-ups.

In order from left to right in the photo above:

1. Lash Princess Waterproof — I'm actually kinda saving this one for summer when I'm the pool daily. But if it's like its regular counterpart, my lashes will be magnificent. See mascara #9 for more on this.

2. They're Real Magnet by Benefit — Got this in a beauty box and fell in love. I can only explain the brush by saying it's like a bunch of short spikes in a random order, not orderly rows. I really love this one for getting every lash at the tips.

3. Clinique High Impact Mascara (trial size; doesn't say Lash Elevating like #4) — Don't kill me, but the words rubbed off this one! I compared it to #7, and the brushes are exactly the same, so this one is a trial size and #7 is a full-size. The brush is not like #4, and the rows are closer together to get every lash.

4. Clinique High Impact Lash Elevating Mascara (trial size; the lack of hyphens on this tube of mascara triggers the Grammar Nazi in me, but what are ya gonna do?) —  It has a cone-shaped brush with rows that are a bit farther apart than some of the others on the list, which means you might get a bit more of a spidery look. I believe this is the one that does not SAY it's waterproof but it most certainly was. (So I put some of each Clinique on this list on my hand to try it out and, yep, this one stayed on pretty good with water.)

5. Lancome Hypnose Drama — Thick brush with longer spikes than #2 mascara, so it REALLY gets down to the roots of the lashes.

6. Younique Moodstruck Epic Mascara — Gone are the days of yours truly being a Younique presenter and selling a mascara that took no less than a minimum of THREE steps to make it pop. Now all you need is this. It's one of my very favorites. If you don't want to buy directly from a presenter, grab some off eBay because the people selling it on there are most likely presenters anyway (they buy in bulk for the discount and the bonuses then sell it on eBay). You can find out more about it in my massive Kerrie's Favorite Beauty Products post.

7. Clinique High Impact Mascara (full size) — This is where it gets confusing. This brush is the same as mascara #3, but it has the same name as #4.

8. Voluminous by L'Oreal — This one has been a favorite for over 25 years and it's mentioned in my original post that I linked to at the start of this post.

9. Lash Princess regular — See the waterproof version, above. The brush for both of these is more similar to a cone like mascara #4 on this list, but the rows are ... thicker. So more mascara sticks to them and more gets on the lashes the first time. This takes my lashes to a whole new level, but I don't need that every day, and that's why I have several in my lineup. Lash princess was given to me as a 50th birthday gift in both the waterproof and regular versions by my best friend Ginette. She’s a girly girl with seven sons and two daughters. She swore by the stuff and I have come to absolutely love it, as well as the price tag. For Christmas, I made sure each of my teenage daughters got their own tube.

I teach my Grammar/Composition students to wrap it up nicely, so this concludes my post on mascara love. I hope you found something new to try. I'd love to hear about your favorites so I can add them to my list of mascara to try.
