Embrace Individuality: Explore the World of Unique Wedding Bands for Women

Cultivating a lifetime of individuality is a continuous journey that involves consistent discovery and self-reflection. It is a healthy and empowering process that encourages a diversity of perspectives and experiences. Achieving true individuality can feel challenging in a society that encourages conformity. Fortunately, many ways exist to embrace your uniqueness and express your authenticity, from jewelry choices to everyday habits.

Price

The wedding band is often one of the last purchases brides make before their big day, but it shouldn't be an afterthought. When you consider that it's an accessory that will be worn every day – til death, do your part – you want to choose something that makes an impact. Unique wedding bands for women can range in price, but you don't have to break the bank to find a piece that stands out. Look for features that make a ring more unique, like a knife edge, crisscrossing rings, or even hammered metal. You can also find rings with rare gems and unusual cuts, like the pear or marquise cut diamond shape.

10 Types of Sandal

Pexels. CCO Licensed.

Summer is sandal season. But just what type of sandals should you wear? There are many different types of sandals for different types of occasion. This post delves into 10 common types of sandal.

Flip flops

Flip flops are the most popular type of sandal. They consist of a simple flat sole and y-shaped strap called a toe thong that sits between the big toe and second toe. Flip flops are great for protecting your feet from the hot sand at the beach or preventing you slipping near the poolside. Due to their flippy-floppy nature, they’re less suited to long walks where they may get uncomfortable.

Sliders

Sliders are one of the comfortable sandals. They consist of a flat sole and single wide strap over the top of the foot which you literally ‘slide’ your foot into. Compared to flip-flops, they’re also easier to walk in  - you can wear them at the pool or walk around town in them.

Strappy sandals

These sandals typically have added straps around the ankle or top of the foot, which are usually fastened with buckles. This extra support makes them better suited for walking in for long periods. Some strap styles are fairly casual, while others are more elegant and dressy.

Slingback sandals

Slingback sandals feature an extra sling around the back of the foot to stop them coming off. As with strappy sandals, they’re suitable for walking long distances because of this extra strap, and can come in casual and formal styles.

Gladiator sandals

Styled after the shoes that gladiators wore, these sandals contain multiple straps along the top of the foot and straps around the ankle. Some have added straps that go up to the knees. Their bohemian look makes them ideal for festivals. Just be wary that they’re not the easiest sandals to get on.

Birkenstocks

The classic Birkenstock looks a bit like a slider but with two straps that can be fastened up. Manufactured by the brand Birkenstock, these shoes have been imitated by many other brands over the years. They’re practical sandals for everyday wear that go well with all kinds of clothing from jeans to summer dresses.

Hiking sandals

As the name suggests, these are the best sandals for hiking. Their thick grippy soles help with scrambling, while their padded fastenable straps keep them secure and comfortable on a long walk. An ideal alternative to hiking boots when you want to keep your feet cool.

Heeled sandals

Some sandals have a raised heel for added height. These are typically not everyday sandals and are better suited for events like nights out or weddings when you don’t want to wear closed off heels.

Wedge sandals

Wedge sandals have a thicker and wider raised heel that can make them easier to walk in - especially on more uneven terrain like cobblestones or gravel. They are formal, but some have a more casual look.

Platform sandals

Platform sandals have flat thick soles. This gives them height without putting as much pressure on the ankles, knees and hips as heels or wedges. If you find heels or wedges hard to walk in, they’re a good alternative.

I Am Having an Online Affair with #Joybird Mid-Century Modern Custom Furniture

Don't judge me. I have a thing for retro. Always have.

Vanilla Cokes and poodle skirts when I was a teen? Check.

Herman Miller couch with built-in end tables and blue and green fabric kinda like this as my post-divorce gift to myself when I was 22? Check.

Lime green end table lamps, also as the post-divorce gift to moi? Check.

Mini silver Christmas tree? Yep, a gift from my stepdad.

And do you even have to ask if I watch Madmen? Uh, I wish I could jump into it and LIVE it. Obsession for sure.

Part of why I had to go to Johnson Space Center in Houston recently is because the whole space thing was such a big part of the 60s.

The Most Common Hair Goals (and How to Reach Them)

Whether it’s part of a New Year’s discussion or otherwise, everyone has hair goals and they constantly dream about being able to reach them. Setting intentions is great, but what happens when they become a true struggle? It is time to take a step back and reassess. Function of beauty reviews offers all sorts of background information on the effectiveness of various products, as customized shampoos and conditioners become a more common tool in reaching these aforementioned hair goals.

The time has come for us to discuss the most common hair goals that are set by those who seek out customized hair care products. Fortunately, there is no shortage of ways to achieve them. Be sure to read on and learn more…

Hair Loss Treatment

An anti-thinning regimen is a great way to put a stop to hair loss. For starters, customized shampoos and conditioners make things much easier on the scalp. For example, many may not have realized that pea peptides will fortify the hair and keep it from having a chance to break off. Shampoos and conditioners are two very important steps towards that goal. While there are products in the marketplace that are designed to help, many customers will get far better results out of a more customized option.

In addition to the pea peptides, many hair loss treatment seekers benefit from adding a mousse that will also increase the volume of the hair. Taking the time to speak with a medical professional about the benefits of these products is of the utmost importance, as they are able to guide patients in the right direction. There is no better way to remove the guesswork from the equation entirely.

Hair Strengthening

The more customers learn about the ingredients that can naturally strengthen the hair, the easier the process becomes. For example, vitamins A through E will have a strong effect on the hair and are often prioritized when a customer is looking to put together their own customized shampoo and conditioner options. Iron and zinc are also great ingredients for strengthening hair and unfortunately, the average person does not always get enough of these nutrients on a daily basis.

That’s why it is important to add them to the shampoos and conditioners that are being created. These items are not expected to serve as a miracle potion, they are merely a way to add the necessary nutrients to a daily hair care routine. No one should make the mistake of assuming that their diet will handle all of these concerns on its own.

Taming All of Those Curls!

Last but certainly not least, those who need to tame their unruly curls will always benefit immensely from the usage of customized shampoos and conditioners. Those who do not take the time to do so are risking major damage to their curls and they may experience a sizable amount of breakage. In order to properly fine-tune a curly hair regimen, customized shampoos and conditioners are best. There is a wide range of natural ingredients that can be included in a curly hair regimen and the more that the customer knows, the better the chances of achieving their goals.

Even something as adding some extra aloe vera to the daily shampooing and conditioning regimen can work wonders. Shea butter and coconut oil will also have positive effects.

Mascara Love Update Post

Welcome to my Mascara Love Update post.

Mascara has always been my go-to makeup item. If I had to only choose one beauty product to use for the rest of my life or to put on before doing a TV appearance or going anywhere at all, it would be mascara. A close second would be a great light-pink lipgloss or lipstick 💄, but that’s another post. Stay tuned because I have several of those and am itching to try more and share the outcome with you. Who isn't looking for the perfect nude lipstick, anyway 🤷

You can find the original post about 9 tubes in 5 different kinds of mascara here, so if you add those to this post, it turns out I am able to discuss 11 mascaras without duplicates, and that's just the tip of the iceberg of what's out there (and if you don't count Lash Princess in waterproof and regular as one thing)! And this is ironic or something BECAUSE my original post was from almost 11 years ago.

In case you're wondering, I pretty much always get mascara in BLACK. Back in the ’80s, yes, I did have blue and purple mascaras though, and I would not hesitate to use those again. Just waiting for my daughters to buy some so I can borrow it. (Some of you — like our family ophthalmologist — are freaking out right now about eye diseases and sharing mascara, and I'll do an update post if that ever happens.)

3 Benefits of Going to a Barbershop

Photo by Thgusstavo Santana from Pexels

Is it time for you to get rid of your quarantine haircut and get back to something that is more stylish? Do you simply need a bit of relaxation and pampering? Cutting your hair at home simply doesn't offer the experience you deserve, and salon chains typically won't have exactly the services you want. Instead, head to a barbershop. Doing so offers plenty of benefits.

1. Barbershops Offer a Full Experience

When you trim your hair at home, it's typically fast-paced and nothing special. The same can usually be said of cookie-cutter salons, too. Going to a barbershop is often a full experience, complete with relaxation. In addition to cutting your hair in a style that is completely you, barbershops often provide an experience that includes hot towels, straight razor shaves, and even refreshments. High-end décor and qualified professionals further ensure you have a relaxing experience when you visit a barber shop Sterling VA

3 Tips to Liven Up Your Look This Summer

Warmer weather and sunny days may soon be upon us. This year why not liven things up a bit with a fun new summer look. Below are three tips to get you in the mood to update your look with a fun and funky summer style people will be sure to notice.

1. Vintage Clothes

Vintage clothes may be all the rage and there’s an easy way to get your hands on some. Shop your local secondhand and used clothing stores to find hidden vintage gems. Often people may clean out a closet and donate clothes from times past without a second thought. Those clothes may soon become the latest vintage look.

2. Unique Jewelry

Unique and one of a kind pieces of jewelry can be just what your outfit needs to liven it up. You can search your local vintage and secondhand stores for older jewelry. Or, for an even more unique look, you can buy handmade necklaces online. You may be able to find some one-of-a-kind looks that perfectly fits your style and personality.

3. New Hairstyle

Have you ever tried a different hairstyle or color? This may be the perfect time for you to give that style or color a chance. If you’re not ready to drastically change your look, something subtle can still make you feel ready for that summer get-together. You can even try out some semi-permanent hair dyes to give you that change you may be craving, without the commitment. Hair extensions can also help you achieve a look you’ve been wanting, without having to commit to a style permanently.

Enjoy the long summer days and give yourself a fun makeover. Remember, it doesn’t have to be permanent or drastic to give you that boost you may be looking for. Have fun and enjoy your summer!

Which Diamonds Look the Biggest on Wedding Rings?

Wedding rings are often just simple gold, silver, or platinum bands. Both the men and the women’s bands are similar. You can add a few details, such as etchings or even tiny stones to make it more unique.

The addition of diamonds on wedding rings has been popular for the last few years. Diamonds are often added on the women’s ring to complement their diamond engagement rings.

Although the diamonds are often small on a wedding ring, some would want to have bigger diamonds even on their wedding rings. If you are like that, you can choose a particular cut to give the illusion of a bigger diamond.

Choosing the Right Cut

It’s better to choose the right cut to give the illusion than actually making the diamond bigger.

Specific cuts are more expensive than other cuts, but adding another carat to your diamond will make it pricier. If you're on a strict budget, you might end up in trouble for splurging on the ring.

With that, here are some of the best cuts you can choose that look bigger on wedding rings:

Round Cut

The round cut is famous for a lot of reasons. It offers the most brilliance and makes the diamond look bigger than it actually is. Round diamonds are also the sign of class, luxury, and is a timeless look.

It’s the perfect cut for a wedding ring as it can complement the simplicity of the band.

Oval Cut

If you’re not that much of a fan of round cut and would love something a little more modern and uncommon, then you can choose the oval cut.

The oval cut provides almost the same brilliance of a round cut, but it looks even bigger because of its elongated shape.

You can put it in the center of your wedding ring, and it’ll give you the same illusion of a bigger stone. Plus, it has a more modern look to it and is typically found in engagement rings instead of wedding rings. So, it can make your ring look a little more unique than most wedding rings out there.

Marquise Cut

If you want an even more unique look but still get the illusion of a big diamond, then you can choose the marquise cut.

It has an elongated shape and is not as common today as it was back then. Still, it’s one of the best diamond cuts that you can choose for the illusion.

Conclusion

The best way to get these stones on your wedding ring is to have them customized. If you have chosen from these cuts, talk to your jeweler to have it incorporated on your rings.

4 Things to Consider Before Getting a Tattoo

There’s no denying that tattoos are pretty trendy these days. And it’s not hard to see why: they can liven things up, allow people to show off their personality, and we’ll be darned if they don’t also look pretty good too. But of course, part of the appeal of tattoos is that not everybody has one. They are exclusive. And for this reason, there’s much to consider before getting one yourself. Below, we take a look at a number of the key considerations to mull over before getting inked.

Whether You Can Handle The Pain

It’s highly likely that you’ve never intentionally subjected yourself to pain, but that’s just what you’ll be doing when you get a tattoo. There’s no pain-free way to get ink onto your skin, after all. If you’re planning anything bigger than an inch, then you’ll want to think about the pain aspect. Even some of the toughest people around have made comments about the pain they experienced when they were getting their tattoo. The pain won’t last forever, but it is something that you’ll have to endure when you’re actually getting the tattoo.

What’s the Design?

There’s some pretty good advice about how you should decide what the design of your tattoo will be. They say that you should hang the design up on your wall, and if you’re not sick of it after six months (or longer), then you’ll know that it’s the right option. At the very least, be sure not to jump into anything -- an idea needs space to breathe. You can’t come up with an idea and then put it into practice straightaway. Well, you can, but you’ll be greatly increasing the chance that you end up regretting it. Remember: your tattoo will be forever!

A Reputable Tattoo Artist

Just as with any other profession, there are good and bad tattoo artists. Unlike other professions, it’s greatly important that you pick a talented artist who really knows what they’re doing. There are good and bad chefs, but the only thing you’ll end up with if you choose a bad one is a bad meal. If you pick a bad tattoo artist, you’ll be wearing their lack of talent on your body for the rest of your life. Get recommendations, and ask to see their previous work. As well as their artistic talents, look at their professionalism. Do they use a high-quality needle cleaner? Does it look like they are running a professional operation? Don’t have any doubts. This isn’t something that you want to take any chances with!

The Right Time

You’ll also want to pick the right time to get your tattoo. Your tattoo will need care once it has been put on your body, so it’s best to choose a period when you don’t have much on (and especially nothing that could knock your tattoo). Because new tattoos can be vulnerable to sunlight, you may want to consider getting it during the winter months -- which is also an especially good time to lay low.

Engagement Ring Buying Guide

Most rings tend to be extremely special pieces of jewelry. They tend to hold a wealth of symbolisation and are typically associated with feelings of love and adoration. Nonetheless, before you purchase one it is important to know about their construction and the different elements that make up a ring. After all, it is always recommended to have thorough knowledge regarding a product before you commit to purchasing it.

Most precious rings tend to be laced with stunning diamonds. When it comes to diamonds the main thing you need to know about is the four C’s. These are used in the GIA certification grading system which is used by all top jewellers around the world. It is always important to buy a ring with GIA certification, especially when purchasing from eBay. This is an important step to remove counterfeits from eBay. It measures a diamond based on cut, clarity, colour, and carat weight. This is how you will be able to determine whether a diamond is of quality or not. Carat weight and colour are pretty self-explanatory. When it comes to the latter, the more colourless the diamond is the more desirable it tends to be. With regards to carat weight, the more the diamond weighs the better it is generally considered to be. Cut relates to the way in which the diamond has been cut in terms of proportion – not shape. If a diamond has been cut too shallow or deep the light is going to spill out and you aren’t going to get a beautiful sparkle. And finally, clarity relates to the level of blemishes witnessed on the diamond. No diamond is perfect but you don’t want imperfections to be evident to the naked eye.

It is quite clear to see why GIA certification is needed when purchasing a wedding ring or any other type of special ring. You should also consider the setting of the ring. A prong setting is typically the most popular. This is when the metal looks like a claw that is holding the stone in place. You can also get a shared prong setting as well. Channel settings are becoming more and more popular in the modern day. This is when the diamond or gemstone is secured between vertical metal walls. There is then the bar channel setting which is a more secure version. Pave settings are used when creating an elegant appearance whilst on the other hand bezel settings can be effective when making the stone appear bigger than it actually is.
The last element that makes up a ring is of course the metal. You can choose between all of the following; yellow gold, rose gold, white gold, platinum, palladium, tungsten carbide, sterling silver or stainless steel. Most individuals tend to go for yellow gold or platinum. Nevertheless, white gold works as a brilliant alternative to platinum for those who are seeking something cheaper.

In order to get the perfect combination between a diamond, a metal and a setting you are happy with you should actually consider going down the custom made route. This is how you will ensure you end up with a ring you are one hundred per cent happy with. Furthermore, you will be the only person in the world to have it.

Designing FOR Kids, Not AT Kids

Photo © Kirill_grekov - Dreamstime.com

Children are unique.  They may look like small adults, but they behave quite differently.  The great W.C. Fields was once quoted as saying “Never work with children or animals.  They are … completely unpredictable”.  He of course meant that working with children was difficult for an actor or director, but many designers feel the same way when it comes to designing FOR children (I don’t know how they feel about animals).

Whether you are building a website, educational materials, game or “marketing” messages aimed at children, it is critical to understand how kids process and use information differently from adults.

Let them Play

Kids learn through play.  They are quick to use the knowledge they have from everyday life, and apply them to the challenge or “game” at hand.  Use interfaces that are intuitive and self-explanatory. The more a child can relate to the task at hand the faster they will develop new skills to accomplish the task.  Give clear directions by making the goals specific and clear.  And of course, make it fun and engaging with multiple levels of “rewards” built in while accomplishing tasks and goals.

Be Clear and Concise

Stating objectives or goals of the exercise to a child can help prevent them from getting confused or discouraged.  And while it is important to give specifics, it is equally as important to not  “lecture” or be too demanding on how they approach the goals.  It is important to encourage kids to explore on their own to tap into their natural curiosity.

Pick the right level

The ability to learn new skills, follow directions, and infer information varies differently within a few years of age for children.  In everyday conversation, you talk differently to a 6 year old than you would to a 9-year-old.  Take into consideration the target age group for your design and the limitations that come at that age.  Talk at the right level – not above or below it.

Engage the senses

Regardless of your users age, information is learned and processed differently depending on how it is delivered.   While there are no hard and fast statistics – every individual learns uniquely – it is generally agreed that people learn more from doing something than they do from simply seeing or hearing something.  Creating designs that encourage interactions will be far more effective that ones that only present information in a static manner.

Photo © Yarruta - Dreamstime.com

Don’t Dictate the Pace

All children are unique.  Using an interface that assumes how fast or how slow a child will learn or process information can lead to discouragement and disengagement.  Set up your design to let the kids set their own pace, giving them options to slow down, speed up, or go back in the process.

And while designing a fun and engaging environment for children can be challenging and rewarding, it is important to always maintain ethical standards when targeting such a vulnerable population.  Keep it fun, keep it safe.
